HOW WEST MELBOURNE IS EVOLVING INTO A VIBRANT COUNTERPOINT TO THE CBD

04/11/2020

The City of Melbourne’s structure plan for West Melbourne, released in 2018, is a blueprint for protecting and greening what it calls “a distinct suburb”.

Tailored planning controls are designed to protect character and heritage buildings and create a new high street at Spencer Street while unlocking 10,000 square metres of new open space as it evolves into a vibrant counterpoint to the central city.

West Melbourne’s population has been predicted to grow threefold by 2036 to more than 16,000 thanks to new developments, and property prices in the postcode jumped 18.1 per cent over the past year.

And so it is exciting times at Spencer Street where we have completed demolition and piling and bulk excavation works are well underway.

The Marker is an exciting residential and urban retail project leading the evolution of West Melbourne. With 198 apartments just moments from Docklands and the CBD, this joint venture development is perfectly positioned on the city’s edge with a range of luxury apartments above ground level cafes and shopping.

Evert van de Wege said “After safely completing the demolition of the existing buildings, we are starting the Ground Works with Piling and Bulk Excavation. One of our key roles is to keep the client group well informed throughout the demolition process.”
